Laura Stearman, MD

Laura Stearman, MD, is a board-certified urologist specializing in female pelvic health at Urogynecology of Oklahoma. She is dedicated to thoroughly reviewing treatment options that include medical and surgical management with each patient allowing them to choose what is best for them depending on their personal goals. She has been married to Dustin for over 25 years, and they have two amazing kids. They love hiking in Colorado and cheering on their favorite sports teams. Dr. Stearman is very involved in her church and women's bible study. She also volunteers with the youth group.

Dr. Stearman treats patients with urinary incontinence (urine leakage), overactive bladder (urinary urgency and frequency), fecal incontinence (bowel leakage), and pelvic organ prolapse (when a pelvic organ like the bladder drops or “prolapses” down and causes vaginal pressure or bulge symptoms).

The most fulfilling part of her job is helping improve her patients’ lives. “Many women are limited by their bladder problems or vaginal support issues and stop doing or enjoying everyday activities,” Dr. Stearman says. She loves being able to offer minimally invasive procedures and behavioral interventions that can quickly impact very bothersome pelvic floor conditions, ranging from overactive bladder to urinary incontinence to pelvic organ prolapse.

“If I can allow someone to get back to exercising, hiking, making it through a business meeting, traveling, or being able to chase after their kids or grandkids, that makes my day,” says Dr. Stearman. “It's a real privilege to get to know these women and play a role in restoring their quality of life, and I often hear, ‘I wish I had done this sooner.’”

Because pelvic floor issues are so common for women—and are infrequently discussed—she finds that the patients she treats like to let other women know they don’t have to live with these issues: help is available. “Patients will end up convincing their mothers or friends to come in to see me,” she says, “so it's great that the education effect can ripple out into someone's circle of family and friends.”

Macara Jacobs, PA

Hi, I'm Macara, a board-certified Physician Assistant at Urogynecology of Oklahoma. I earned my biology degree from the University of Central Oklahoma and completed my Physician Assistant training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.  (Boomer!)

For nearly 20 years, I have devoted my profession to women's health. I began practicing in the field of gynecology and obstetrics and later transitioned into the sub-specialty of urogynecology.  Along the way, it was evident I'd found my true passion.  I believe that healthcare is a partnership, and I strive to create an environment where patients feel heard, respected, and actively involved in their care.  Being able to support women through all stages of their lives and helping them feel confident, comfortable, and empowered in their healthcare has given me such a rewarding career.   I also enjoy staying engaged with the latest research and advances in women’s health to provide the most informed, evidence-based care possible.

Outside of work, I'm married to my husband, Shawn, and we have two young-adult boys.  Some of my hobbies include exploring the outdoors, attending concerts of all different genres, traveling the world, and watching sports games – especially my son's soccer games.  Fun fact about me – I also love trying new-to-me restaurants wherever I may be, and try not to eat at the same restaurant twice.

I look forward to meeting you and being part of your healthcare journey here at Urogynecology of Oklahoma.
